How do you manage your passwords?

If you’re like me, you have hundreds of online accounts. Security experts recommend using a unique password for each account! How can anyone remember hundreds of passwords? It’s tempting is to use the same one over and over again, I am guilty of doing just that for throw away accounts, for example just to read an article.  But if there is any personally identifiable information tied to an account, that just won’t do.

I don’t want to install a 3rd party password manager, in part because I use at least 5 different computers on a regular basis and in part because I do not subscribe to the “put-eggs-in-same-basket” theory. Therefore I have decided to use a password algorithm. I know I will be more secure – but we’ll see how often I am forced to use the “forgot password” tool. Here are some ideas for crafting your own password algorithm.
